The Helsinki Accord was an agreement signed by 35 nations which guaranteed to retain the status quo of european borders and to strengthen respect for human rights and freedoms. It was signed on August 1, 1975.

It made the soviet union and it allies happy as well since it gave them the assurance that the frontiers of eastern europe were inviolable, but provisions were made for international law.
